Fear

Fear, of what might have been. Of what could be. Fear of uncertain futures. Fear that I have screwed up, or that I did it right but I may screw it up still. Fear, like a deer caught in headlights.

IPod cases for everyone!
Filed Under General | 2 Comments
Oh, the tangled web we weave on the internet… So, I started at Chris Saylor’s site and followed his link to Asymptomatic, a wordpress coding/hack site. I followed a link from there to Gadgetopia and found a quip about this IPod case that someone is selling on ebay.
A sock for an Ipod case? What the hell?!? Somehow, I bet Erik Snider (of ThuderFest fame) is connected to this! I know all you eBay junkies will jump on this, but resist the urge! I can have one of these cases to you in a day, so purchase from me instead! ![]()

Google yourself!
Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
Yesterday, I decided to try googling myself, and I was quite surprised… I am nowhere to be found! So after a conversation with Chris Saylor, my brother-in-law, we started sprucing up my page with the needed information for search engines. He told me that I also need to mention the keywords in the content of the site, if I want it to go straight to the top of the list… Now I am trying to figure out how to refer to myself in the third person without sounding like Bob Dole. I will just get it out of the way now, Josh Owens, Josh, Owens, Joshua Owens, cheesy, geek, blah blah blah…
In the process of the search, I ran across this website which is dedicated to some weird blog game. It is a stock market type of game, where each blog is a commodity which can be traded. Links to and from various sites will drive up your cost, so attention/linking is the name of the game. Very odd…
My next story is with the editor as I type this, so stay tuned!

BitTorrent

I am getting a lot of requests asking how I am getting the *cough* stuff that I am. I just wanted to explain this in a more detailed fashion for the n00bs that I introduce to BT. You will notice I have links to the right, listed under BT, those are tracker websites I frequent.
A basic explination of BT:
You install the client on your machine. Once that is done, just go to any of the tracker websites that you like (links to the right, under BT). Once at the site, you will find torrent files, these contain information for connecting to the tracker. Download the torrent, it will launch your client which will connect to the tracker. The tracker’s job is to do what it sounds like, track and connect all the clients that want the file, which it does in a p2p fashion.
My favorite tracker/BT sites:
Suprnova
Digital-Update
TVT < -- This one houses the latest TV shows in Xvid format.
Azureus notes:
Remember the golden rule, always give back what you have taken… Yes, that means you, “seed” the file back to a 1 share ratio, once you are done. I also recommend throtling the bandwidth on your client back to 50-70% of your total bandwidth, as this will provide minimal impact on daily browsing, if you leave Azureus running all the time. Also, you can have it handle a queue for you, so it will stop sharing the torrent once you reach a share ratio of 1. Under the configuration, go to the queue section, click on it, set the queue for the total downloads you want running at once. Expand the queue section and the seeding section, click on the first priority tab and change the Share ratio under to 1:1. This will force your seeds to give back to a share ratio of 1, then queue them and stop the uploads.
These tools are great, and have proven their worth over time, distributing not only p2p content, but legit content as well.
