Sorry, I couldn’t resist the bub rub reference.

We have been trying to sell our house for around 3 weeks now, and it may pay off soon! We received a call from our realtor last night letting us know we have an offer on the house. We figured we might get a low-ball offer, but by asking 109,900 we hoped to offset that some. They offered 103,000 with us paying their closing costs! That would net out to less than what we paid for the place and given that an exact copy of our condo sold for 110,000 two weeks ago, I found it very laughable. So we countered with 109,900 with us paying the closing costs…

The news of the offer helped off-set my crappy mood yesterday. I made the mistake of running across CSS Beauty and realizing my skills are severely lacking in the web design arena. I can’t quite pin-point what I am lacking, but I have been leaning towards my lack of Photoshop skills. One thing I have noticed is most of the sites have found ways to make backgrounds and buttons look more 3d… Hopefully when I finish this book/tutorial I will have a better feel to hack up something similar. My hope is to start a small web design business that I can do on the side, in my spare time. If anyone has web design business name suggestions, I am open to them!

-Arrivederci.

Yesterday I went to the doctor to have this weird lump behind my ear checked out. I ended up missing work too, because the thing is bothering me off and on. The doctor thinks it is just a cyst and doesn’t present a major worry to him - but he did refer me to an ENT for follow-up/removal. The thought of surgery, even local anesthetic, gives me pause… I am sure you can see from my last post that I was up late Sunday night, it was weighing heavy on my mind and I just couldn’t fall asleep. I turned the TV off around 3am but didn’t slip into dreamland until 3:30ish - insomnia sucks!

Anyway that is the news from my corner of the universe, thanks for stopping by ;).

We were very busy yesterday, running all over the place. We caught the child-infested showing of Robots in the early afternoon, over @ the Rave Theater. We followed that up with an enjoyable meal next door @ P.F. Chang’s, it was a late lunch and the place was almost empty which made it very enjoyable. After that we made a trip to Barnes & Noble to pick up some books I wanted to read. My disgust with local Photoshop resources prompted me to turn to Amazon to find a good book or video. My search results turned up Adobe CS 1on1 by Deke McClelland. So far it seems to be what I am looking for in Photoshop training material. The other book I picked up, The Zen of CSS Design, is based on the creation and subsequent design submissions on the Zen garden website. I would highly recommend the garden to anyone looking for ideas or if they are stuck on a CSS problem, that is where I got the idea for Kelley’s stationary flower. We ended up having to drive across town to pick up the CSS book, as they didn’t have it at our local Barnes & Noble. After that, we ended up over at our friends’ house for an evening of TV watching, WoW playing, and pizza eating.

Anyway, I will keep everyone posted on the Photoshop book as I progress.

Keep walking, nothing to look at…

So, lately I have been purusing CSS Zen Garden looking for neat ideas. It is awesome to look at all the cool designs people have written/made, but it also leaves me feeling very inadequate when I look at the things I have done. I think it is my GFX skills that hold me back more than anything - I can barely eek things out with photoshop. This prompted me to try and find a class of some sort, but of course there is really nothing around in hicksville Ohio. So if anyone knows of a good photoshop class/course that I could take, please let me know! I have found a few websites with tutorials, but I want more of a high level understanding and perhaps some practical techniques… I don’t want to end up being a one-trick pony that knows how to make some nice “glass” buttons.

Viva la CSS!
