Branding
Filed Under General | 2 Comments
It seems Ze Frank is reading my mind or something, scary! Chris, Kevin, and I have been putting a lot of thought into rebranding the Web 2.0 Show as we are getting tired of the jokes and eye rolls the term seems to draw now-a-days. Web 2.0 seems to be gaining that negative branding he talked about in yesterday's episode.
So we decided to let our listeners help in renaming the show to something better and more long-lived. I find the whole idea of branding a bit hilarious myself, Chris and I just had a conversation about holding companies and subsidiaries. His company was purchased, but now the parent company is changing it's name and now they are owned by a parent company, blah blah blah. Complicated, no? The point of all this? To keep the brands seperate. I think that is just silly in this day and age. If you are P&G, don't you want people to know that Iams is the quality dog food brand you sell now?? That is why we rebranded Steelpixel the way we did, we want people to visually link all our products. We are proud of the work we do with Steelpixel, and we want to give you the comfort of know we made it. If that is a comfort anyway ![]()

Controversy sells?
Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
I did a podcast tonight and I realized that if we want to generate traffic, controversy is the way to go. That is so lame to me… Why must I bash someone else for people to pay attention? Is that why Ze Frank is so popular?
I think there are other tools to gain a bunch of attention, but controversy seems to be the quickest and easiest way for people to do it. This type of tactic has been admitted to by John C. Dvorak whenever he talks about a mac stuff. So what other techniques seem to work? Ask a ninja seems to use comedy in a fresh way and it works for them. TWiT seems to work because you have a group of highly touted individuals talking about weekly tech news - this method is much less accessible to people who are just breaking into the podcast/video podcast community.
So how does one successfully grow a podcast without stirring the pot?

It seems I have allowed my laziness to infultrate this blog in horrible ways. I love to write, so why haven't I? No clue.
I think every time I get on here to write, I remember that I need a new theme! I finally upgraded to wordpress 2.0, as I got tired of all the spam sitting in moderation. My laxidazical posting has lead to the demise of all my great SEO on goggle. I am no longer all 10 of the top search results for Josh Owens. Perhaps my new claimID setup will help.
I finally upgraded the firmware on my XV6700 and it is way more stable. I plan on figuring out how to post here from it, so hopefully you will see more entries coming from me soon :).
